How to get a morning brief of your day with AI

Start each day with one short message that pulls together today's meetings, emails that need a reply and the tasks that matter most, instead of checking five apps.

Steps

  1. Write down what "urgent" means for you, for example "someone is waiting for my reply within 24 hours". Without this rule, newsletters end up in your brief.

    Tool: ChatGPT

    Try this prompt:
Help me write 5 simple rules for what counts as urgent in my email and tasks, and what can wait. Ask me 3 questions about my week first.
  2. Connect a no-code agent to your email, calendar and task list with read-only access, and have it run every weekday at 7:00.

    Tool: Zapier Agents

  3. Prefer an assistant that already works with Gmail and Google Calendar? Set it up to send one brief each morning and to write drafts only, never send.

    Tool: Lindy

  4. Use this instruction for the brief itself, then shorten it after a week if it's too chatty.

    Tool: Claude

    Try this prompt:
Every morning, give me: today's meetings and what I need to prepare, emails that need a reply from me today, the 3 tasks that matter most, and anything overdue. Link each item to its source. Keep it under 150 words.
  5. Keep your tasks in one place so the brief has something clean to read.

Questions

Is it safe to let an AI read my inbox?

Start with read-only access and drafts only. Don't let the agent send email, move meetings or pay anything without you approving it first.

Why is my brief full of unimportant things?

The agent doesn't know your priorities yet. Give it a written rule for what is urgent, and tell it which senders always matter.
